JANUARY 2-8, 2022

We are learning to get around quite nicely.  Mike has a keen sense of direction, navigates the round-abouts perfectly and is even staying within the speed limits!  (He is motivated because mission rules are 2 tickets and you forfeit driving privileges/no mercy!) and…we are in the car a lot driving short and long distances.  I don’t know how many miles we drive per month, but our gas (petrol) costs about $500/month!
We found someone to cut (and color mine) our hair!  That is harder than finding a doctor! Our last hair appointment was in Virginia with Shelby 2 months earlier and we looked like some of the shaggy sheep we see around here!
We have been helping some Elders teach on zoom to a Muslim man named Abdullah.  We have had interesting discussions, but not a lot of spirit.  There are a lot of similarities with his Koran teachings, but the big divide is his unbelief in the need of a Savior at all.  So grateful we know we have a Savior who is the Redeemer of the world.
We also enjoyed an endowment session in the Preston Temple with some other senior missionary couples and had dinner together afterwards at one of their flats.  It is 2 hours away from us (we are by far the furthest away)…..but we are used to the long distance drives after several years of driving to the Washington DC Temple.We will be so excited to attend the Richmond Temple when we get home! Only two hours!
We enjoyed sightseeing with some other senior couples (Harrisons, Lattins, Emily Mitchell). Everyone in the mission seems to want to come to Wales for their sightseeing p-days and we can see why!  We live in a postcard of beauty - and it is winter, so we can only imagine what it will be like when spring arrives.  We enjoyed Snowdonia Mountains, Swallow Falls, and walking along the Irish Sea coast to some cliffs with a lighthouse.  It was very cold and windy and rainy (photos below) and yet there were some crazies parasailing in the ocean for over 2 hours. We loved visiting with our new friends over dinners and learning from their experiences.

This week’s missionary work has been busy, productive and varied! Our best week so far.  I am so happy -Each Sunday evening we have a mission wide Zoom devotional.  Tonight Mike and I were invited to be the speakers.  We felt the power of the Holy Ghost as we shared thoughts and bore our testimonies. -Monday we drove to the Manchester Mission Office (2 hours away) and met with all the other senior missionaries, including President and Sister Johnson, for a surprise 50th birthday dinner for Emily Mitchell, a senior sister who is the mission nurse.  She is a really neat woman we spent a few days sightseeing with earlier this month and we love to be around her.   We enjoyed a great dinner with everyone.  Since our assignment on Isle of Anglesey is far away from all other seniors (and most young elders/sisters), we really enjoy times like this to mingle with the other missionary couples. -Tuesday included lots of driving to ‘find’ members on the Gaerwan ward li...

AUGUST 30-SEPTEMBER 30, 2022

‘SISTER BAYALAGMAA BAYARLKHAGVA’ I’ve posted before about Sister Bella staying with us for a week between transfers a few months ago.We grew to love her, enjoyed our week together and thought that would be the last we saw her because she would be finishing her mission in six weeks and returning to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  President  Tunnicliff called one morning and asked us if we would be willing to let Sister Bella stay with us for the last few weeks of her mission because of some specific needs.  Of course we quickly said ‘yes’ and prepared for her to be with us. Elder Rasband asked us a question in October 2017 general conference - “What are God's miracles in your life that remind you that He is close?”  He encouraged us to find daily experiences that show us the Lord is in the small details as well as the major milestones in our lives. NOVEMBER 29-DECEMBER 12 2021

(1st Journal entry of our mission) “I LOVE WEARING A MISSIONARY NAMETAG ! I love my name linked to the name of Jesus Christ. This has been a special first week in the MTC.  I definitely have felt ‘heaven on earth’.  We are in the world, but not of the world as we are here.  But we are buoying ourselves up as individuals and companions to go out into the world of Manchester England to help others find ‘heaven on earth’.  Our district companions have been amazing.  From a couple ages 77, both converts, who have already served 3 missions together, to another couple from Canada who wanted to serve outside their country and were called not far from their home to live on a First Nation reservation in a trailer, and a third couple, youngest of all of us, ages 58, going to Portugal where she doesn’t know the language, so will speak the language of “love”.  We rounded out the district, just grateful to be a part.  This is my first ‘journal’ entry, and I am find...
